In the 1960s and 70s, bribery was more than common among the Hong Kong Police Force. Four influential police officers, known as the "Four Chief Chinese Superintendents" whose influences even extended to the triads, accumulated enormous wealth through bribery. Their stories became filmmakers' favorite in the 1990s, and among these titles is the Lee Rock series, an allusion to the Chief Chinese Superintendent Lui Lok. Andy Lau's portrayal of this corrupt but powerful police officer has become one of his classic roles in his acting career, and the film received as many as 8 nominations in the Hong Kong Film Awards!
